Vessel Attacked by Armed Men in the Red Sea off Yemen

A ship was attacked by armed individuals in the Red Sea near Yemen, according to a British military monitoring group. The attackers reportedly used rocket-propelled grenades during the incident.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an armed security team on board the vessel returned fire. The situation was described as ongoing at the time of the report, and authorities have launched an investigation.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which UKMTO stated occurred approximately 100 kilometers southwest of Hodeida, a port city in Yemen currently under the control of the Houthi movement.

Ambrey, a maritime security company, indicated that the targeted vessel was a commercial ship and that the attack involved eight small boats.

The Red Sea is a critical route for international shipping, and the region has seen increased security concerns in recent years due to ongoing conflict in Yemen and the presence of armed groups.
