Sources Tell AFP: Ceasefire Talks on Gaza Underway in Doha

Representatives from both Israel and Hamas have begun discussions in Doha, Qatar, aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement concerning the situation in Gaza, according to AFP, which cites Palestinian sources familiar with the negotiations.

The talks are expected to focus on the terms for a temporary halt to hostilities, as well as the potential exchange of hostages and detainees. In addition, Hamas has requested increased humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza and has indicated that an initial ceasefire should serve as a step toward achieving lasting peace in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described Hamas' additional demands as unacceptable, but has confirmed that Israel will participate in the negotiations.
