At least 59 people have been confirmed dead following severe flash flooding in Kerr County, Texas, according to the AFP news agency. Authorities have indicated that the number of fatalities may increase as search and rescue operations continue.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick told Fox News that heavy rainfall is ongoing in the region, complicating efforts to locate missing individuals. "It is still raining heavily today, and we have lost more people. The confirmed death toll is now 59. Unfortunately, we expect that number to rise," he said.

Numerous people remain unaccounted for after the disaster, including several girls who were attending a summer camp in the area. Emergency services are continuing their efforts to find those who are missing.
