At Least Seven Dead Following Heavy Rain in Somalia

Authorities in Somalia have reported that at least seven individuals lost their lives in the capital city of Mogadishu due to severe rainfall that triggered widespread flooding. Saleh Hassan, a spokesperson for the mayor of Mogadishu, indicated that the heavy rains also caused the collapse of nine houses and inundated the homes of approximately 200 families.

In addition to the residential damage, significant destruction was reported to infrastructure, including six major roads. The flooding occurred on Friday evening when the drainage system was unable to manage the volume of water, which fell over a period of about eight hours. Officials recorded a rainfall total of 115 millimeters, with water levels rising to waist height in various areas of the city.
