US and China Engage in Trade Talks in Geneva

High-ranking officials from the United States and China are convening today in Geneva in an effort to de-escalate the ongoing trade conflict between the two nations. The trade tensions have escalated significantly, with the United States imposing tariffs of 145 percent on Chinese goods, prompting China to retaliate with tariffs of 125 percent on American products.

This meeting marks the first direct dialogue between the two countries since these tariffs were enacted. On Friday, President Donald Trump indicated a willingness to reduce tariffs by 80 percent, contingent upon concessions from the Chinese government, as clarified by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
