Støre and European Allies Discuss with Trump via Phone

The leaders of the ten Northern European nations that comprise the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, convened in Oslo for a summit. On Thursday evening, they engaged in two separate phone conversations with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labour Party) informed the press on Friday morning that they initiated the calls, placing the phone on the table for direct communication.

The discussions focused on the urgent need for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, along with mechanisms to ensure accountability for both parties involved. Støre noted that similar conversations were held with Zelensky under the same conditions, emphasizing a collaborative approach among the U.S., European nations, and Ukraine. The JEF summit takes place just a month and a half prior to the NATO summit scheduled in the Netherlands.
