Arrested Hospital Director from Gaza Allegedly Subjected to Torture, Claims Defense Attorney

Hussam Abu Safiya, a 52-year-old physician and director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip, was arrested by Israeli forces during the Christmas period last year on charges of terrorism. His defense attorney, Gheed Qassem, has reported that Abu Safiya is suffering significantly due to alleged torture, coercion, and humiliation, which he has endured in an effort to extract confessions for actions he denies committing. Qassem expressed serious concerns regarding the health of her client, noting that he has lost 20 kilograms in two months and sustained four broken ribs during interrogations, without receiving adequate medical care afterward. The Israeli military has not responded to inquiries regarding this case. Various organizations, including the World Health Organization, Amnesty International, and representatives from the United Nations, have called for Abu Safiya's release.
