Former President Donald Trump has made several requests to Harvard University, including a proposal for background checks on students in collaboration with immigration authorities. The administration claims that this extensive list of demands is aimed at combating antisemitism. However, Harvard has firmly rejected these requests, as announced on Monday. In a letter addressed to students and staff, University President Alan Garber stated, "No government, regardless of its political affiliation, has the authority to dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and employ, or which research areas they can pursue." This stance underscores the institution's commitment to academic independence and autonomy.
