Women's Political and Economic Rights Enshrined in Syria's Constitutional Declaration

The newly announced constitutional declaration in Syria includes provisions for women's political and economic rights, alongside guarantees for freedom of expression and press. This declaration is intended to serve as a foundational step towards establishing a comprehensive new constitution for the war-torn nation.
In early March, President Ahmed al-Sharaa revealed that a committee is actively working on drafting this constitutional declaration, which marks a significant shift following the ousting of long-time leader Bashar al-Assad in December. The transitional government has already annulled the constitution that was in place during Assad's regime, signaling a move towards reform and modernization.
Sharaa has indicated that the process of creating a new constitution could take up to three years, reflecting the complexities involved in rebuilding the country's legal framework and addressing the needs of its diverse population.
