The newly formed Syrian government has announced the establishment of a National Security Council, which will be headed by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. This initiative comes in the wake of a significant surge in violence that has resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,400 civilians, predominantly from the Alawite community, due to actions taken by security forces and affiliated groups.

The violence erupted following a rebellion by forces loyal to the ousted president Bashar al-Assad. In the announcement regarding the formation of the National Security Council, officials stated that the council aims to "enhance national security and address the security and political challenges that lie ahead."

This development reflects the government's efforts to stabilize the country amidst ongoing unrest and to implement measures that could potentially restore order and safety for its citizens.
