What is Conflingo?
Conflingo is a new Norwegian-developed social media with a clear vision: to combat loneliness, facilitate strong relationships, promote a balanced and open debate, and to be a safe platform free of abuse and bullying.
We offer a secure arena for getting to know others, engaging in open discussions, and sharing your thoughts – completely anonymously if you wish. To ensure a safe experience, we use artificial intelligence to filter unsafe and offensive content. Users can choose to remain anonymous and receive a unique alias for each post.
Is Conflingo available in other languages?
Yes! While Conflingo was originally created as a Norwegian platform, we are expanding internationally. You can now use Conflingo in both Norwegian and English – and in some parts, also Spanish.
The forum is separated by language, and there is a dedicated Norwegian forum that you can find here with its own feed, just like the English version. When you create a post, you can choose which language it should be published in – such as English or Norwegian – to keep discussions relevant for each language community.
The user interface (UI) will automatically switch to Norwegian/Spanish when you visit another language version of Conflingo. You can also change the language manually:
- On most pages, there's a language toggle button in the footer where you can switch between English and Norwegian, on sport and news it is also available in Spanish.
- In the forum, the language filter is located at the top of the sidebar.
News articles and football content are also available in English, Spanish and Norwegian, so you can stay updated with international stories in the language you prefer.
Does it cost anything to use Conflingo?
No – Conflingo is completely free to use, and there are no plans to introduce any kind of paywall, now or in the future. This includes matching, chatting, and all core social features.
We're transparent about how we fund the platform: revenue comes from ads (via Google AdSense) and select affiliate partnerships – not from the users.
One of Conflingo’s core goals is to offer a safe, effective, and free way to connect with others – just as powerful as paid dating or social platforms, but without pressure to subscribe or pay.
How do I create an account?
You can register using either your email or a Google account. Your data is encrypted and stored securely. Email verification is not required to register, but it is needed to post, create a public profile, and participate in matching. Without a verified email, you can comment and vote on posts.
If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it via the link Forgot Password. Please note that the reset link is valid only once and for one hour.
How do I change my settings?
Go to your profile page and click on the gear icon to update your information. Here, you can change your username, password, and add personal details if you wish to have a public profile. This is also where you choose whether you want to participate in matching and which information you want to share. You can also verify your email address and delete your account. When deleted, all your user data is permanently removed, and this action cannot be undone.
What is the difference between an anonymous and a public profile?
By default, all profiles are anonymous. With an anonymous profile, your username or profile picture is not displayed to other users you do not match with. Posts and comments are assigned a random alias. If you choose to have a public profile, your username and profile picture will be visible to everyone, and others can see your posts. You can switch between an anonymous and a public profile at any time.
Regardless of profile type, your interactions – such as liking or disliking posts and comments – remain anonymous to other users.
How is content moderated on Conflingo?
All content published on Conflingo goes through an automated moderation system to ensure the platform remains safe and aligned with our community guidelines. Moderation is done in two layers:
1. First layer – automatic blocking:
- Certain words and phrases are automatically blocked to prevent clearly harmful or illegal content.
- In comments, all types of links are blocked to avoid spam and unwanted material.
- In posts, links are allowed but are automatically marked with
rel="nofollow"
. Only links to a curated list of approved domains are permitted for publishing.
2. Second layer – AI-based content analysis:
An advanced language model (LLM) evaluates the text to determine if it meets our content guidelines. This applies to both posts and comments.
Posts published in the “controversial” category are reviewed with slightly more leniency – particularly regarding sexual content and strong opinions – but harassment, bullying, and illegal content are always blocked.
For comments that are blocked by the system, they are sent to a manual moderation queue. This manual review exists solely to prevent valid comments from being incorrectly rejected. For example, calling a well-known public figure “an absolute idiot” may be acceptable in context as a form of political expression, but an AI model without context might wrongly flag it as harassment. The manual step helps ensure context is respected.
Our goal is to protect users from harmful content without limiting honest opinions or strong debate.
Is there a Conflingo app?
We’ve developed a fully functional app that’s ready for launch, but we’ve chosen to hold off until we have enough active users on the platform. This ensures that the app will provide a vibrant and engaging experience from day one.
If you’d like to see the app released, feel free to invite your friends and contacts to join Conflingo. The more users we gain, the sooner we can launch the app!
How do notifications work on Conflingo?
In the current web version, you receive notifications in the bottom right corner – on both mobile and desktop – as long as you're actively browsing a page on Conflingo. This helps you stay updated with new messages or activity while using the platform.
Once the mobile app launches, we’ll support real push notifications – so you’ll never miss an important update, even when the app is closed.
The first version of the app will support push notifications for:
- ⏱️ New match requests
- 💬 New chat messages
- 🔥 Popular posts (optional – can be turned on/off, similar to Reddit)
More notification options and settings will be added over time, so you can fully customize what you want to be notified about.
How does Conflingo handle privacy and data storage?
We take privacy seriously and believe in full transparency about how we handle your data. When you use Conflingo, we only collect what is necessary to provide a safe, functional, and fair user experience. We never sell or share your data with third parties – that's completely against our philosophy.
The following data may be stored about you:
- Email address and username (if you choose to create a public profile)
- IP address and device information (for security and abuse prevention)
- Posts, comments, and votes (used for matching and showing your activity)
- Optional profile information you choose to share
You are always in control of your data. All interactions – such as upvotes, downvotes, likes and dislikes – can be deleted every 72h(to prevent vote abuse). If you wish, you can also permanently delete your profile, all posts, and all comments. Everything can be managed easily through your Settings.
We also use Google Analytics and Google AdSense for basic statistics and ad display. You can choose whether to accept or reject these through our cookie consent system (Cookiebot). We do not use your interactions on the platform to deliver targeted ads, and we have no interest in profiling you or sharing your personal data.
We use artificial intelligence solely for content moderation and safety – not to analyze who you are or what you like.
To learn more, read our full Privacy Policy.
How do news articles and comment sections work on Conflingo?
Conflingo provides real-time news updates from credible sources. Articles are published automatically with short summaries, and you can read them immediately — regardless of your user level.
All news articles come with open comment sections. You're free to ask questions, challenge the framing, or share your perspective directly under the article. This creates real public debate — not just one-way information.
Visit the news section at conflingo.no/nyheter or the English version at conflingo.no/en/news.
How does fact-checking work on Conflingo?
Conflingo has a built-in fact-checking system that automatically analyzes both news articles and user-generated posts containing potentially polarizing or controversial claims.
Here's how it works:
- News articles: Fact-checking is triggered the first time someone visits the article after it has been live for at least 2 hours.
- User posts: These can be fact-checked immediately upon publishing if the system detects statements that require verification.
The system compares the content against reliable public sources — first in Norwegian, then in English if needed. If the content aligns with external information, a fact-check box is displayed at the bottom of the post, including a summary and source links.
Users can then:
- View the sources used in the fact-check
- Vote 👍 or 👎 to express whether they agree with the evaluation
If a significant number of users flag the fact-check as inaccurate or misleading, a disclaimer is automatically added, warning readers to interpret the evaluation with caution.
All fact-checks are clearly marked as automatically generated — giving you full transparency to form your own opinion.
How does the XP and level system work on Conflingo?
Conflingo rewards genuine engagement. When you actively participate by voting, logging in, sharing posts, or inviting others, you earn experience points (XP). These points help you level up and unlock new features on the platform.
Here are some actions that give XP:
- Voting (1 XP per vote, max 50 XP per day)
- Someone votes on your content (2 XP)
- Referring a new user (100 XP)
- Daily logins (bonus and streak multiplier up to 2x)
The more you use the platform, the more you'll benefit. The system is designed to reward real activity and build a community of real people – not bots.
Read more at conflingo.no/levelup.
What do I unlock as I level up?
Conflingo is built on trust. When you start as a new user, you can join discussions by voting. As you collect XP and level up, you gain access to more features:
- Level 1: You can vote and comment on content.
- Level 2: You can create your own posts and use the Matching feature.
- Level 3: You get access to extra profile customization and special badges. (Coming soon)
- Level 4: Enjoy an ad-free experience and premium profile themes. (Coming soon)
More levels and features are coming, including a rewards shop and challenges.
See the full overview at conflingo.no/levelup.
What is a streak and how does it work?
The streak system rewards you for being consistently active. If you log in and vote every day, you'll build a streak. The longer your streak, the higher your XP multiplier – up to 2x bonus.
If you miss a day, your streak resets – but no worries, you can always start again. It's meant to make activity fun and motivating, not stressful.
Check your streak and progress at conflingo.no/levelup.
How does the point system help prevent bots?
We use the XP system as a barrier against bots and spam. By requiring real engagement to unlock features, we make sure new users can't abuse the platform. Only users who actively participate gain access to key functionality.
This creates a safer environment for everyone and ensures that published content comes from real people – not automated accounts.
You can read more about how and why at conflingo.no/levelup.
How does the feed work?
Conflingo provides a fair and open feed where content is not filtered or hidden based on your past interactions. Unlike other social media platforms that constantly show you the same type of content or reinforce your existing views, we offer a balanced and unbiased overview of engaging discussions.
Our trending algorithm ensures that posts gaining traction—whether through votes, comments, or views—are highlighted, but without trapping you in an echo chamber. New posts always get a fair chance to trend, keeping discussions fresh and relevant.
To prevent popular posts from dominating the feed for too long, older posts naturally lose visibility over time. Additionally, controversial posts with both support and opposition receive a slight boost, ensuring that you see a variety of perspectives—not just content that aligns with your beliefs.
You can also choose to sort the feed based on your preferences:
- Trending – Posts generating the most activity in real-time.
- Newest – The latest posts in chronological order.
- Most liked – Posts with the highest number of upvotes.
- Least liked – Posts with the most downvotes.
- Most commented – Posts with the most engaged discussions.
For even more control, you can use our topic filters to view posts within specific subjects. This allows you to find content that interests you—without an algorithm deciding what you should see.
How does search work on Conflingo?
At the moment, we use Google’s Custom Search API to power the search function on Conflingo. This provides very accurate and relevant results – especially for posts and pages that have already been indexed by Google.
Please note that newly created posts may not show up in search immediately, as Google needs to index the content first. There may be a short delay before fresh posts become searchable.
You can find the search feature in:
- The top of the filter sidebar in the forum
- The footer at the bottom of most pages
We’re working on building our own internal search engine, which will allow you to find posts, comments, and users instantly – without relying on external indexing.
For now, search works best for content that has been live for a few hours or more.
How do I create a post?
To create a post, you must first verify your email address in Settings. When creating a post, you must follow our guidelines, which include a ban on bullying and harassment. You can add text, images, videos, or YouTube links. Make sure your content complies with our rules to avoid having your post rejected.
How does commenting work?
To comment, go to the desired post and type your comment in the comment field. Your alias on the post will be the same for all comments you make on that specific post. Comments that are automatically blocked by moderation are sent for manual review to ensure the system does not make mistakes.
All your comments will be visible on this page. Here, you can view your previous comments and any replies you have received. You can click on them to be taken directly to the comment.
How do likes/dislikes and thumbs up/down work?
You can express your opinion by using thumbs up or down on posts, and like or dislike on comments. These interactions are crucial for the matching function to work. Your interactions are anonymous and can be changed – for example, you can remove or modify your vote (switching from thumbs up to thumbs down). It is also possible to delete all your interactions, but there is a 72-hour waiting period between each request. If you delete your account, all data will be removed regardless of the waiting period.
How does the matching function work?
The matching function connects you with other users based on values, interests, and interactions. The algorithm analyzes your votes (thumbs up and down) on all posts and comments you have engaged with to suggest potential matches. This function helps you build strong relationships with other users who share your views and interests. Participation in matching is completely voluntary and can be enabled or disabled in your settings. Read more about matching here.
How does the chat function work?
When you match with someone – either through the matching algorithm or via a "get-to-know" link that you create and send – you can start a chat with that person. In the chat, you have full control over all the messages you share; you can delete your messages at any time, and they will also be removed from our servers. You can share text, images, videos, and links, and everything is encrypted to secure your communication. If you wish to end contact with a user, you can un-match, which deletes all communication for both parties.
Is it safe to share photos and media on Conflingo?
Yes – we've taken strong measures to ensure that sharing media on Conflingo is secure and that you remain in full control, especially in private chats.
Here's how we protect your content:
- If you're using an anonymous profile, your profile picture is hidden from everyone – except users you’ve matched with.
- Images shared in public posts are visible to everyone, since posts are always public.
- Images shared in chat are only accessible within the chat room between you and your match.
All image URLs and chat messages are encrypted and cannot be accessed outside of the conversation. Right-clicking and downloading images is disabled, and you can delete any image at any time by clicking the "x" above it in the chat.
If you unmatch a user, the entire conversation – including all photos and messages – is immediately deleted from our servers. We keep no backups of chats, so that you can share sensitive or personal content with confidence and peace of mind.
On Conflingo, you stay in control. What you share stays private – always.
Is artificial intelligence used on Conflingo?
Yes, we use artificial intelligence (AI) in some parts of the platform – including moderation and, in certain cases, to help generate replies or comments in discussions that have little activity. This is only done to support ongoing conversations and keep the community engaging.
Any AI-generated comments are carefully crafted to follow our community guidelines and are designed to feel natural, relevant, and respectful. Our goal is not to deceive anyone, but to support a lively and welcoming environment – especially while the platform is growing.
You are always welcome to join in with your own thoughts. Real users are what make Conflingo truly come alive.
How can I give feedback or suggest new features?
We’re building Conflingo together with our users, and your opinion matters. Whether it’s ideas for new features, suggestions for improvement, or simply praise or criticism – we’d love to hear it!
You can share your feedback in several ways:
- Leave a comment on this post where we collect community input.
- Send us a message via the public Conflingo profile.
- Use the contact us form if it’s something private or technical.
No idea is too small. We read everything, and we truly appreciate you helping us shape this platform together.
What do I do if I experience problems?
If you experience problems, you can create a post or contact us via Contact Us. You can also add the public Conflingo profile to chat with us directly.
