I got into programming because of modding
I just wanted to change the weather in a game, and ended up discovering I actually love writing code.
It started with Minecraft. I was annoyed that it always rained in-game, so I googled how to change it. That search led to installing mods, then editing them, then eventually writing my own tiny scripts.
Next thing I knew, I was watching tutorials on Java. I’d never written a line of code before, but it made sense to me in a way math class never did. I liked building things that actually worked, especially in a world I cared about.
Now I’m two years into a CS degree. I don’t know if I would’ve found this path without that first impulse to tweak a game I loved.
Modding made programming feel approachable. It wasn’t abstract. It was personal. If you’ve ever modded a game, you’ve already written your first line of real-world code.
