When did your kids start using screens?
I keep wondering if I’m being too strict or too relaxed about screen time—at what age did your kids really start getting into it?
Hey everyone 😊 Just curious where other parents stand on this. How old were your kids when screens became a regular part of their lives? I mean phones, tablets, TV—anything with a screen really.
We’ve got a preschooler now, and we’ve been trying to limit it as much as we can. A little TV in the mornings or during dinner prep is fine, but we avoid letting it take over the day. Still, it’s so tempting to hand them a tablet when we’re exhausted or just need 30 minutes of peace. And I totally get why some parents do it more often—life is busy and there are days when everyone’s just surviving.
But I also hear so much mixed advice. Some people say screen time is totally fine if it’s balanced and includes educational stuff. Others act like letting your kid watch anything before age 10 will melt their brain. Then you’ve got families where kids are glued to iPads for hours, and no one seems to bat an eye.
I’m just trying to find the sweet spot where they get to enjoy tech like any other kid, without it taking over or turning into a battle every time we turn it off.
So I’m wondering—when did screens become a regular thing for your kids? Did you set firm limits or let it evolve naturally? Did you ever regret being too strict or too lenient?
