We can’t agree on a baby name and it’s driving me crazy

Hi everyone 👋

So, here’s a little dilemma that I’m honestly starting to lose sleep over. My partner and I are expecting a baby this summer, and we absolutely cannot agree on a name. Like, at all. We’ve got plenty of time left, but it already feels like we’ve hit a wall — and we haven’t even found one single name we both like.

It’s become a bit of a running joke (and not in a funny way anymore) that every name one of us suggests is immediately rejected by the other. I seriously hate every name he’s proposed, and he looks at mine as if I’m speaking in riddles. We’ve gone through the “Find Baby Name” app twice, flipped through three different baby name books, browsed countless lists online, and still… nothing.

The one thing we’ve agreed on? The name shouldn’t:

  • Start with an S (his family is full of them),
  • Be on the top 20 most popular names list,
  • Contain any special Norwegian letters like æ, ø, or å.

And that’s where the agreement ends. 😅

The weird part is, when we had our first child, we settled on a name without much stress. A couple of conversations, some back and forth, and then boom — we just knew. I have no idea how we pulled that off because this time around feels like trying to agree on the name of a spaceship that’s going to represent Earth to aliens.

I know this is the definition of a “luxury problem,” and I do see the humor in it. But still… hormones are raging, I’m nesting like a maniac, and I just want to picture this baby with a name already. It’s hard not to obsess when you want everything to feel “right.”

Has anyone else gone through this? What worked for you? Did someone just eventually give in? Did you stumble across a name at the last minute that magically solved everything?

I’m open to literally any tips (or stories) right now — even name suggestions that follow our ridiculous list of requirements. 🫠
