My husband won't stop gaming at night, even though It keeps our daughter awake

Tonight, my five-year-old daughter told me she struggles to fall asleep when her dad is talking. She was referring to the nights when he plays video games with his friends, which happens a few times a week. She usually sleeps well once she actually falls asleep, but getting there is often a challenge for her.

I mentioned it to my husband and suggested that maybe he could wait until she’s asleep before starting his gaming sessions. He immediately dismissed the idea. His response was basically, "I don’t game that many nights a week, and she needs to learn to sleep with some background noise." He said he could try to lower his voice a bit, but he couldn’t guarantee it because, in the heat of the game, it’s hard to control—especially when things get intense and some... colorful language slips out.

But waiting until she falls asleep? Absolutely not an option for him. His reasoning? He has the right to play his games, and sometimes it takes her a long time to fall asleep, so it would be too much of a hassle to wait. He also pointed out that she has trouble sleeping on the nights he doesn’t game as well, so according to him, his talking isn’t the real issue.

I have to admit, I was really taken aback by his reaction. To me, it feels incredibly selfish to prioritize gaming over our daughter's sleep, especially when the solution seems so simple. Am I overreacting here?
