Introducing a pacifier—will it affect breastfeeding?

Hi!

First-time mom here with a question. My baby was born around Christmas, and I’ve been breastfeeding her directly. Sometimes she seems to want the breast just for comfort, using it more like a pacifier. In those moments, it’s only me she wants—she doesn’t eat but just likes to suckle.

Breastfeeding is going really well, but I’m wondering if it might be worth introducing a pacifier. It could make things a bit easier for my partner if I step out for a quick walk with the dog or am not available right at that moment.

I’m just worried a pacifier might disrupt breastfeeding or make her less likely to signal when she’s actually hungry. I love the bonding time we get from nursing and don’t want to lose that either.

For those who’ve been in a similar situation—did introducing a pacifier help, and did it affect breastfeeding in any way? Would love some advice!
